Ötzi the Iceman, a mummy over 5000 years old discovered in the glacial ice between Austria and Italy, has been closely linked to the Ötztal Valley since its discovery in 1991. The Ötzi Village in Umhausen is dedicated to the oldest and most famous "journeyman" to have crossed the Ötztal Valley. Highlights include:

THE TIMMELSJOCH HIGH ALPINE ROAD

Excursion to Austria's highest mountain pass

The start of the Timmelsjoch High Alpine Road is located just a few minutes' drive from the Gletscherblick Apartments in Obergurgl. Use your stay in the region to discover the unique high-alpine nature in the region around Obergurgl-Hochgurgl.

Along the road visitors will find a number of large monuments telling the history of this cross-border route that was used by smugglers centuries ago to transport contraband between Italy and Austria. The Timmelsjoch High Alpine Road is open from early June until mid-October from 7:00 until 20:00 (depending on the weather).

The AQUA DOME in Längenfeld is the perfect place to spend a rainy day. Just a 30-minute drive from the Gletscherblick Apartments, this luxurious spa gives guests the chance to get away from it all and forget the stresses and strains of everyday life.

Unwind and admire the Ötztal Alps in a selection of pools with water temperatures of between 34° and 36° Celsius. Work up a sweat on the underwater gym machines before retiring to the chill-out zone and lying back on one of the special heated recliners.

The idyllic village of Vent lies at the foot of the Wildspitze, the highest mountain in Tyrol, and offers wonderful views of the peaks above and the valley below.

Those with strong nerves should definitely visit the hanging bridge near the Rofenhöfe, one of the region's most famous breeding centres for Haflinger horses. The 46-metre bridge spans the Rofnerschlucht canyon with the Rofner Ache stream roaring past 31 metres below. A great place for a unique holiday photo!
